After 12 years with the Stewart McKelvey law firm, Janet Thompson-Price, alumna of the 2009-2010 21 Leaders experience, along with Maggie Coffin Prowse have founded their own boutique law firm in Saint John, NB. Coffin & Thompson is the first carbon neutral law firm in New Brunswick, and work with environmental, construction and immigration clients. Janet has served on several boards in her community including Hestia House, KV3C, the Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resources Centre, and the Saint John YM-YWCA.
“I was very fortunate.“ Says Thompson-Price on choosing to become a 21 leader, “My former employer, Stewart McKelvey encouraged me to apply for the program. They were incredibly supportive throughout the whole program. I wanted to join the 21 Leaders as I knew it would be an excellent opportunity to meet people excelling in our province in all fields and to learn more about my province. “
“21 Leaders gave me the tools and confidence I needed to take the plunge and start a business with one of my best friends. “ She says, “It also made me more engaged in the issues affecting New Brunswickers. Before 21 Leaders I was more focused on the community service work that I was involved in. The 21 Leaders Program exposed me to the wonderful work that others are doing in other areas. This new chapter in my life has taught me that it is okay to take risks in life and to follow your heart.”
“It feels absolutely wonderful to be an entrepreneur. “ She says on Coffin & Thompson, “Both my parents owned their own businesses so I come by it naturally. I love the freedom to set my own hours. I have three young kids so owning my own business lets me spend more time with them.“
