Success Story - Susan Holt

Susan Holt was one of the participants for the Emerging Leaders Summit, an intensive week-long advanced leadership experience held in conjunction with the Ideas Festival, in November 2010. This experience was 21inc’s first time broadening its scope beyond the province of New Brunswick, to fostering new relationships and skills for a cohort of leaders from all four Atlantic Provinces. Since her experience, Susan has become the President/CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council.

"I chose to become involved with 21inc because I had been following their 21 leaders program and participants and had wanted to become a part of what I viewed to be a strong network of interesting, dynamic young Atlantic Canadians who wanted to bring about positive change in our provinces", said Susan. "I wanted to meet these people, to learn from them, and to build relationships that I hoped would be productive for both of us in the long term."

Susan says that the Summit and Festival gave her the opportunity to challenge and expand her perspective on issues facing the region as well as her generation, while building relationships with other participants. "The Summit and Festival provided a great environment to build strong initial relationships with people that I hope to partner with and learn from in the future. In fact, I've already benefited from a number of the new contacts I made within the network of emerging leaders and presenters, from specific coaching support, to securing a presenter for an event, to gaining access to information I needed for a project's success", according to Susan. "All of these elements have increased my effectiveness and productivity."

About the potential of the 21inc community moving forward, Susan says that "it presents a ton of potential for me and my career.  The alumni are blazing new trails and inspiring others by their example.  And I hope to take advantage of all the innovative thinkers in the group to help me in my work with the Business Council as we strive for new ways to contribute to our province's future prosperity.  I expect this community to serve as a life-long group of advisors, educators and friends where we all support each other’s' success."
